Chop the Greens is a recipe app for [chopthegreens.com](https://chopthegreens.com). This
policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
In short: you can use the entire app without an account, and if you do, we collect
nothing about you. Signing in is optional and exists only to back up your own saved
recipes so they survive a new phone.
There is no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind in either case.

If you don't sign in
Nothing is collected. There is no account, and no way to identify you.
The app saves the following **on your device only**. It is never uploaded and never shared:
- Recipes you bookmark
- Your shopping list, and which items you've ticked off
- Your meal plan
- Your light/dark theme preference
- A cached copy of the recipes, so the app works offline
Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.
If you choose to sign in with Google
Signing in is entirely optional, offered once, and can be declined or reversed at any time.
The app never requires it, and no recipe or feature is locked behind it.
- What we receive from Google: your Google account's user ID, email address, display name
and profile picture. We request only basic profile and email permission — the app cannot see
your Gmail, contacts, files, or anything else in your Google account.
- What we store: a single record, identified by your Google account ID, containing exactly
the data listed in the previous section — your saved recipes, shopping list and meal plan.
Nothing else.
- Where it's stored: Google Firebase (Firestore), operated by Google LLC, encrypted in
transit and at rest. Security rules restrict every record so that it can only be read or
written by the signed-in account that owns it.
- What it's used for:restoring your own data on your own devices. That is the only
purpose. It is never sold, never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and
never analysed in aggregate.
- Signing outstops the syncing and leaves your data on the device, so you don't lose a
shopping list mid-shop. Your backed-up copy remains until you ask us to delete it.
Deleting your data
Sign out and uninstall to remove everything from your device. To delete the backed-up copy
as well, email the address below from the account you signed in with and we will delete the
record and confirm. There is no charge and no waiting period beyond the time it takes to
action it.
Network requests
The app downloads recipes from `chopthegreens.com` over an encrypted HTTPS connection —
ordinary read-only requests for content any visitor to the website can see. Like any web
request, our web host receives standard technical information such as your IP address; this
is normal server logging, covered by the
[chopthegreens.com privacy policy](https://chopthegreens.com/privacy-policy/).
Tapping "Read the full post" opens the recipe in your browser, and tapping a social link or
"Watch on YouTube" opens that service — their own privacy policies apply once you're there.
Recipe videos play in an embedded YouTube player, which sets cookies as YouTube normally
does; see [Google's privacy policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).
Notifications
If you start a cooking timer, the app asks permission to notify you when it finishes. These
are generated entirely on your phone. No server is involved, we cannot send you anything,
and the permission is used for nothing else. Decline it and the in-app timer still works.
Children
The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Third parties
The app contains no advertising, analytics, or social media SDKs. The only third-party
service is Google Firebase, used solely to sign you in and store your own data, and only if
you choose to sign in.
Your rights
You can use the app with no data collection at all by not signing in. If you have signed in,
you may request a copy or deletion of your record at any time using the contact address
below. Because we hold nothing beyond what's listed above, there is nothing further to
disclose.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a revised
date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
