Jalapeno guacamole is a spicy avocado-based dip that can be used as a spread on toast. Or as an add-on in sandwiches & wrap. It also works as a great accompaniment with some crackers or veggies.

Taking a bite of guacamole in cracers.

I agree there are millions of guacamole recipes available. However, this recipe of jalapeno guacamole has been tried and tested for many years, and it is loved by me and my nears & dears. Using less than 7 ingredients, it is easy, and get ready in under 5 minutes.

A great summer recipe that goes with chips, in nachos, as a spread, or even as a stuffing. It goes great with chips or crackers. Love to add it as a stuffing in my wraps or Vegan Crunchwrap Supreme. Love it as a spread over my breakfast toast.

Jalapeno Guacamole list of ingredients.

🥘INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS

  1. ONIONS: For this guacamole recipe, I like to use red onions. They give a nice bite to the recipe. But you can also use yellow or white onion or even green onions.
  2. TOMATOES: It is an optional ingredient as some use it and some don't while making guacamole. I like to add tomatoes for color & tangy flavor. Though I like using cherry tomatoes as it makes the recipe tangier.
  3. AVOCADO: All the avocados work for the recipe; just make sure they are ripe.
  4. JALAPENO: You can use fresh jalapeno. Before adding, make sure to de-seed the jalapenos and chop them. Or you can use pickled jalapenos, too (to make guacamole less spicy).
  5. GARNISH: You can garnish it with some chopped cilantro.
  6. SPICES: I like using garlic powder & black peppercorns.

See the recipe card for quantities.

🔪HOW TO MAKE SPICY JALAPENO GUACAMOLE

Check the recipe card below for the full recipe, but you refer here for step-by-step photo instructions.

CHOP VEGGIES: In a big bowl or in a mortar pestle, add chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapenos. Lightly mash the ingredients to spread the flavors evenly.

CUT THE AVOCADO: Cut the avocado from the middle. Twist and pull the sides apart. Carefully remove the seeds using a knife. Using a spoon take out the avocado. Chop the avocado and add it to the bowl.

ADD SEASONING: Then add your favorite seasoning with the veggies. For example, I usually add garlic powder, lemon juice, black peppercorns, and sometimes onion powder.

add veggies, avocado, seasoning in mortar pestle.
Mash them until chunky.

MASH AVOCADO: Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados. Make sure not to over-mash them. It needs to be a little chunky, so keep that in mind.

ADJUST & SERVE: Lastly, mix everything until combined, and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the prepared guacamole as a spread or as a dip.

🥑HOW CAN YOU TELL IF AN AVOCADO IS RIPE?

For making creamy & yummy Homemade Guacamole, the main test is to find the perfect Avocados. Avocados should be rightly ripened because you don't want an unripe or overripe. There are two ways you can find if the avocado is ripe or not:

Method 1: Pressing it gently

It's really hard to press an unripe avocado. Overripe can be squeezed easily and mostly are brown from the inside. The avocados, when pressed gently, are soft & will not indent, and that's the one we need.

Method 2: Check the Root

If the roots are bright green in color, it's unripe. When they are brown in color, it means they are overripe. The perfectly ripened ones are light yellowish and great from the inside.

💭TOP TIPS

  1. To make the creamiest & yummies guacamole. Always use ripe avocado that is soft & smooth.
  2. For chunky guacamole, mash it in a mortar pestle or use a fork or a potato masher. For smooth & creamy guacamole, make it in a food processor.
  3. Add lots of lemon juice for tangy guacamole.
  4. You can use pickled jalapenos or de-seed them and use them in the recipe.
  5. To reduce the spice level of jalapenos, de-seed them. Soak the jalapenos in water and then chop them.
  6. You can also add habanero chilis, tabasco sauce, sriracha, etc for a spicy guacamole.

⭐STORAGE

You can make Jalapeno guacamole ahead of time. Just make sure to add lots of lemon juice. Then, place a plastic wrap directly over the guacamole and remove the air out. This will prevent it from getting brown and remain green & bright.

When you want to consume, remove the plastic wrap and serve it as needed.

🧾FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO YOU KEEP JALAPENO GUACAMOLE FROM BROWING?

Avocados oxidate pretty quickly. To avoid it, I put some lemon juice over it. But once you cut it, try to consume it soon or store it in an avocado container to avoid oxidation. These avocado containers are pretty handy for storing. I use them frequently if I have some avocado left and can't consume it right away.

In order to save the guacamole: Just make sure to add lots of lemon juice. Then, place a plastic wrap directly over the guacamole and remove the air out. This will prevent it from getting brown and remain green & bright. Also, you can sprinkle some water (a generous layer of water on top of the guacamole).

CAN YOU MAKE GUACAMOLE USING FROZEN OR UNRIPE AVOCADOS?

FROZEN AVOCADOS: Frozen avocados are also great in guacamole, like fresh avocados. You can also use them in making dip, dressing, smoothies, etc. Just make sure to puree the avocados and freeze them in ice tray. Before freezing spray lemon juice to avoid oxidation.
UNRIPE AVOCADOS: It is safe to use unripe avocaod in the recipe. Just the only difference is unripe avocaods doesn't taste that good.

CAN YOU FREEZE JALAPENO GUACAMOLE?

Yes, you can freeze homemade jalapeno guacamole. Put the prepared guacamole in the ice tray. Spray lots of lemon juice & them line them with plastic wrap by removing the air out. Freeze the guacamole. Once frozen, store them in freezer-safe bags.

WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD OF JALAPENOS FOR SPICY GUACAMOLE?

You can make spicy guacamole by adding fresh diced jalapenos or by using pickled jalapenos. If you don't have jalapenos in hand or want to add something different, you can still make the guacamole recipe spicy. Just add sriracha, habanero chilis, tabasco, hot peppers, etc. to the recipe.
