Chana Dal Khichdi is a one-pot meal made with rice and chana dal (split chickpeas) along with some spices. You can easily make this recipe in Instant Pot. Chana Dal Khichdi pair nicely with Yogurt/Raita, Achaar (Indian Pickle), or with Aloo Rasedar.
Add Oil to the inner pot of Instant Pot, and press Saute. When the oil is hot add all the Whole Spices, and fry for 1-2 minutes and keep stirring.
Add Cumin Seeds, and when they change color, add Ginger-Garlic Paste, green chili, and fry for 1-2 minutes, till the raw smell disappears.
Add soaked rice and lentil to the pot and mix evenly. Add salt & water to the pot, and close lid.
With vent the sealing position, pressure cook for 4 minutes. When timer beeps do NPR (No Pressure Release) for 10 minutes and then Quick Release (meaning turn vent to the venting position).
When pressure is released and the valve goes down the open lid. Lightly fluff the rice using a fork until everything is combined well and serve with Yogurt or any Indian Pickle.
HOW TO MAKE CHANA DAL KHICHDI ON STOVE-TOP:
In a stove-top pressure cooker add oil at medium heat. When the oil is hot add all the Whole Spices, and fry for 1-2 minutes and keep stirring.

Add soaked rice and lentil to the pot and mix evenly. Add salt & water to the pot, and close lid. Pressure cooker for 3 whistles at medium heat and let pressure release naturally.
When pressure is released then open the lid. Lightly fluff the rice using a fork until everything is combined well and serve with Yogurt or any Indian Pickle.
